The surprising tree in today's image is the Karaloch Tree of Life located in Fox, northwest Washington, USA. The roots of this huge Sitka spruce clearly ignore gravity and closely adhere to the slopes of a small canyon. A small stream flowing into the Pacific is gradually eroding the soil under the trees, but for some reason, the Tree of Life continues to grow. Considering its willingness to survive, it is easy to understand how this tree earned its nickname.
