(A piece of pi)

They say the only constant in life is change. However, in mathematics, there are many constants, and today we celebrate perhaps the most famous constant: π. This strange constant is the quotient between the circumference of a circle and its diameter, approximately 314159. On March 14th every year, math enthusiasts around the world start baking to commemorate Pi Day, a festival celebrating the mathematical constant π and its delicious homophonic cake. It began in 1988 when physicist Larry Shaw associated the date (14/3) with the first three digits of the constant. Today, mathematicians and amateur enthusiasts celebrate Pi Day by eating cakes and reciting Pi.
