In 1987, the world population reached 5 billion, which was a very important milestone that led to an international celebration: 5 billion People's Day. The United Nations recognized the problems brought about by population growth and established World Population Day in 1989. This day is not only a commemorative day, but also a call to action. Overpopulation has depleted the Earth's resources and brought urgent challenges such as family planning, increased waste, pollution, and lack of infrastructure. When metropolitan areas struggle with overpopulation, smaller areas face a decrease in population, resulting in imbalance. For example, the Italian people of Ganji, Sicily, had 16000 residents in the 1950s and only over 6000 today. Ganji attempted to revitalize himself by providing abandoned houses to those who promised to repair them.
