Cultural wealth, a vibrant economy and spirited locals. Welcome to Dhaka, Bangladesh! This megacity on the Ganges Delta is one of the most densely populated cities in the world with over 10.2 million inhabitants. Once known as Jahangirnagar after the reigning Emperor Jahangir, Dhaka was the provincial capital of the Mughal Empire for 75-years. Dhaka is nicknamed "City of Mosques" because of the hundreds of elegant minarets that adorn the city.
