Today is a commemorative moment: International Day of Monuments and Sites. This day, also known as World Heritage Day, aims to emphasize how important the task of protecting our cultural heritage is. Monuments can be anything from architectural works to sculptures, with special value from a historical, artistic, or scientific perspective. The stone structure in today's image is part of the medieval city walls of Avila, Spain. These defensive fortifications were built between the 11th and 14th centuries, with a circumference exceeding 2515 meters. When they first built it, they used it to protect the city from attacks from strangers; Nowadays, tourists can visit nearly half of the city walls and appreciate the city and surrounding scenery.
