(Mother Earth)

Fly with us over the Brazilian rainforest. See the storm clouds? These are cumulonimbus clouds, also known as anvil clouds. Today we celebrate "World Meteorology Day" and honor the marvel of our atmosphere. This day, which was celebrated for the first time 196, commemorates the founding of the World Meteorology Organization in 1950s. But it's more than a historical tribute: it's about acknowledging the important role meteorology plays in our lives. Weather forecasts are not always reliable, but have come a long way thanks to technological advances such as satellites and supercomputers. Thanks to these achievements, global weather models provide predictions for up to 16-days, and the average warning time for tornado warnings has also improved significantly. It is incredible what we have achieved thanks to technology and what great progress we have yet to make.
