Along more than 560 kilometers in southern Brazil, the coast of Santa Catarina holds centuries of history and natural beauty. Long before the arrival of Europeans, the Carijos – of the Tupi-Guarani group – inhabited this region, living in harmony with the sea and land. In 1529, the name "Santa Catarina" was already on world maps. During the 18th century, Azorian settlers arrived, and soon the coast became the scene of disputes between Portugal and Spain. Later, German and Italian immigrants enriched the local culture. In the 19th and 20th centuries, ports and fishing communities flourished.
