Today we pay tribute to umbrellas, a peculiar celebration that honors one of the simplest but essential inventions. Over 4,000 years ago, in ancient Egypt, Assyria and China, these folding awnings were first used to protect people from the sun. It was not until the 17th century that the umbrella, as we know it today, gained popularity in Europe. In Spain, its use began to spread from the 18th century, becoming a highly quoted article among the upper classes and the nobility. Over time, its use was democratized and the umbrella industry in Spain began to gain strength.
