Today, we commemorate International Mountain Day as a moment to reflect on the importance of these natural giants. A landmark example is the three mountaintops of Lavaredo in the Sexten dolomite in northeastern Italy, which we see in today's image. These three mountaintops - Mount Everest, Mount Oviste, and Mount Picola - are well-known around the world and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. During World War I, these mountains were part of the front line and left historical relics in the form of trenches and tunnels.
