The protagonist of today's image, the white rhinoceros, travels through time to emphasize the urgent need to protect endangered species. There are two subspecies: the endangered southern white rhinoceros and the endangered northern white rhinoceros. At the end of the 19th century, poaching brought the southern white rhinoceros to the brink of extinction, but after decades of effort, their numbers have increased. However, the white rhinoceros in the north is facing a more desperate situation, with only two living specimens, a mother and her daughter, protected in the Ol Pejeta Reserve in Kenya.
