The orange glow of a lava tube is a common occurrence on Hawaii's Kilauea, the youngest volcano on one of the youngest islands on earth. Kilauea, which has erupted almost continuously in the last forty years, is widely considered the most active volcano in the world and is the main attraction of the Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, founded today 106 years ago. The protected area, declared an International Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site, includes another active volcano, Mauna Loa, the most massive shield volcano on earth, which erupted most recently 1984. Together they are among the best explored volcanoes.
