Water Tower, Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg

In the middle of Mannheim's magnificent Friedrichsplatz – one of the most beautiful Art Nouveau squares in Europe – rises the imposing water tower, which can be seen in our photo today. But it is far more than just a functional structure: it is the city's iconic landmark. The tower was designed by Gustav Halmhuber, who later also worked on the Berlin Reichstag. Built between 1886 and 1889, the 60-meter-high tower once served as the city's drinking water supply and held an impressive two million liters of water. Today it is a popular tourist destination and event venue, representing Mannheim's successful combination of tradition and modernity. The surrounding park invites you to take relaxing strolls, attend cultural events, or indulge in romantic moments.
But Mannheim has much more to offer: With its unique layout of square streets, which earned the city the nickname "Square City," Mannheim impresses with its urban charm, cultural diversity, and innovative spirit. Carl Benz's first car rolled through the streets here, the first bicycle was invented, and the Söhne Mannheims (Sons of Mannheim) set musical standards here. Discover a dynamic city that combines history and the present in a fascinating way!
