National Trails Day
Forest trails are more than just a way to enjoy nature. They connect people to nature and adventure. Today's picture shows a trail in the Angeles National Forest in California. This area features towering pine trees, rugged ridges and a section of the famous Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). The trail is over 2,600 miles long and stretches from Mexico to Canada, making it the ultimate dream for many hikers. Designated a National Scenic Trail in 1968, the Pacific Crest Trail passes through seven national parks and 25 national forests and is a unique way to experience the splendour of the American West. But you don't have to hike the entire trail to experience it. In Southern California, the section that crosses the San Gabriel Mountains offers spectacular views and a rewarding day hike.
