Happy Cinco de Mayo!
The event is not to be confused with Mexico's Independence Day, held on September 16. The celebration, which is still observed in its native land, gained recognition in the US in the 1980s thanks to advertising campaigns promoting tequila, beer, and wine. No wonder that modern-day Cinco de Mayo has become a boozy holiday in our country. But Mexico has much more to offer than excellent beverages and culinary delights. Mexican culture is truly colorful, whether it is architecture—like the streets in the city of San Miguel de Allende in today's image—history, art, or landscapes.
