Last day of National Park Week
Take advantage of the last day of National Park Week! If you haven't had time to take part in the nine-day celebration, we've got your back. Let us take you to Guadalupe Mountains National Park in western Texas. The park, officially established in 1972, covers 86,416 acres today. Here, the Guadalupe Mountains rise over the salt dunes of the Chihuahuan Desert. At 8,751 feet, the highest point of the mountain range—and of Texas—is the Guadalupe Peak. Another outstanding landmark, often used as a waymark for travelers, is the 8,085-foot-high El Capitan—not to be confused with the about 3,000-foot El Capitan in California—limestone cliff, seen in today's image. Even if National Park Week is over; there are plenty of days in the year to visit the country's abundant natural splendor.
